Mid-Urethral Sling

A Mid-Urethral Sling is a small strip of mesh placed under the urethra to support it and help stop urinary incontinence.
Mid-Urethral Sling
Using a minimally invasive surgical approach, a small strip of mesh is placed under the urethra to support it and help stop urinary incontinence.
For women who experience stress urinary incontinence, conservative treatments are typically used first. This includes pelvic floor therapy, bladder training, and other treatments. If the desired results have not been achieved, your physician may recommend a Mid-Urethral Sling. The sling provides the necessary support to treat leakage that occurs with stress urinary incontinence: coughing, sneezing, laughing, and exercise.
Sedation or anesthesia is used to prevent surgical pain. Using minimally invasive techniques, the sling is inserted into place through very small incisions. This is typically a same-day procedure and you’ll be able to go home after you’ve recovered from anesthesia.
You will be given pre-surgical directions that need to be followed. In addition, we will supply post surgical instructions to keep you safe and comfortable while you’re healing. Be sure to follow these instructions, also.
