Abnormal uterine bleeding is unpredictable uterine bleeding, such as bleeding or spotting between periods, heavy bleeding, or bleeding after menopause.

What is considered Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB)?

Unpredictable uterine bleeding, such as:

  • Bleeding or spotting between periods
  • Bleeding or spotting after sex
  • Heavy bleeding during your period.
  • Bleeding that lasts more than 7–8 days
  • Menstrual cycle lasting longer than 35 days or shorter than 21 days
  • Any bleeding after menopause (Post-Menopausal Bleeding or PMB)

How is Abnormal Uterine Bleeding treated?

There are a whole range of treatments available depending on the cause.

  • Hormone regulation is often successful
  • When medication/hormones do not correct the problem, surgery may be recommended depending on the cause of the bleeding.

A number of different minimally invasive procedures may be recommended depending on the cause of your condition. This includes:

  • Endometrial ablation
  • Hysteroscopy with polypectomy
