Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths inside the uterus. They are typically diagnosed during a standard pelvic exam. Other tests might include an ultrasound and/or blood tests.

What are the symptoms of Uterine Fibroids?

Typically, small fibroids may not cause any symptoms unless they are in specific areas of the uterus. Larger fibroids can cause these kinds of issues:

  • Heavy bleeding during your period
  • Extended abdomen
  • Bladder pressure and frequent urination
  • Pain during sex
  • Lower back pain

How are Uterine Fibroids treated?

A very low percentage of uterine fibroids require treatment. When treatment is needed, a huge range of options are available depending on the desired outcome and the preferences of the woman. These include:

  • A number of different medications
  • Uterine Fibroid Embolization
  • Endometrial Ablation
  • Minimally invasive surgery
  • Hysterectomy
